Maemo ist das Musikprojekt der schweizerisch-marokkanischen Sängerin Malika Alaoui, die heute in Berlin lebt. Malika tourte vier Jahre lang als Leadsängerin der Show Alegría des Cirque du Soleil um, die Welt, bevor sie Maemo gründete – ein Projekt, das ihren unerschütterlichen Wunsch nach, kreativer Entfaltung und künstlerischer Freiheit symbolisiert. Die Songs von Maemo werden auf Französisch, Kreolisch, Marokkanisch-Arabisch(Darija) und in erfundenen Sprachen geschrieben. Die Musik ist tief verwurzelt in den Klängen Nord- undmWestafrikas, karibischen Rhythmen, Blues und Jazz. Europäische Einflüsse wie Akkordeon, Musik aus den Alpen, poetik Zirkus, französische Chanson und Osteuropäische“Gypsy” Klänge fließen ebenfalls ein.
Maemo is the music project of Swiss-Moroccan singer Malika Alaoui, who now lives in Berlin. Malika toured the world for four years as the lead singer of Cirque du Soleil’s show Alegría before founding Maemo—a project that symbolizes her unwavering desire for creative expression and artistic freedom. Maemo’s songs are written in French, Creole, Moroccan Arabic (Darija), and invented languages. The music is deeply rooted in the sounds of North and West Africa, Caribbean rhythms, blues, and jazz. European influences such as the accordion, Alpine music, circus poetry, French chanson, and Eastern European “Gypsy” sounds also flow into the music.
