Aus der kreativen Energie des Berliner Stadtteils Moabit-Tiergarten mit dem ehemaligen Postzustellcode Berlin 21 entstand eine Formation, die urbanen Jazz mit einer mitreißenden Prise Funk und Soul auflädt: BERLIN 21 STREETWORKERS. Was einst als spontane musikalische Reaktion auf die Auftrittsverbote während der Corona Pandemie mit Strassenkonzerten begann, ist heute ein musikalisches Kraftpaket auf hohem Niveau – energiegeladen, publikumsnah und tanzbar. Mit einem Repertoire aus Klassikern von Stevie Wonder, Sting, Bob Marley, den Crusaders, den Beatles oder den Yellowjackets, kombiniert mit ausgewählten Eigenkompositionen der Band, trifft das Ensemble den musikalischen Nerv der Generationen, die mit Groove und Gefühl aufgewachsen sind – und spricht zugleich ein neugieriges, stiloffenes Publikum an. Seit 2024 ist die Band um eine außergewöhnliche Stimme reicher: Emil Wahlgren (Jahrgang 1999) begeistert mit einem markanten, wandlungsfähigen Gesang, der mühelos zwischen Soul, Pop und Jazz wechselt. Inspiriert von Größen wie Al Jarreau, Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Nat King Cole und Billy Joel bringt Wahlgren eine neue vokale Dimension in das Ensemble. Seine Improvisationen und Scat-Einlagen sind virtuos und voller Ausdruckskraft und Charme.
The creative energy of Berlin's Moabit-Tiergarten district, formerly known by the postcode Berlin 21, gave rise to a band that infuses urban jazz with a rousing dash of funk and soul: BERLIN 21 STREETWORKERS. What began as a spontaneous musical response to the performance bans during the Corona pandemic with street concerts is now a high-calibre musical powerhouse – energetic, audience-friendly and danceable. With a repertoire of classics by Stevie Wonder, Sting, Bob Marley, the Crusaders, the Beatles and the Yellowjackets, combined with selected original compositions by the band, the ensemble strikes a chord with generations who grew up with groove and soul – while also appealing to a curious, open-minded audience. Since 2024, the band has been enriched by an extraordinary voice: Emil Wahlgren (born in 1999) captivates audiences with his distinctive, versatile vocals, which effortlessly switch between soul, pop and jazz. Inspired by greats such as Al Jarreau, Stevie Wonder, George Benson, Nat King Cole and Billy Joel, Wahlgren brings a new vocal dimension to the ensemble. His improvisations and scat interludes are virtuosic and full of expressiveness and charm.
