Das Jako Quartet ist das neue Projekt des in Berlin lebenden griechischen Gitarristen Iakovos „Jako“ Symeonidis. Aufbauend auf seinem Debütalbum „Safe Place“ konzentriert sich die Gruppe auf eigene Musik, die Jazz, Soul und Funk vereint. Ihr neues Album „Everything In Between“, aufgenommen im Mai 2025, umfasst neun Titel – größtenteils Eigenkompositionen von Symeonidis, geprägt von seinen Erfahrungen als griechischer Immigrant im Ausland. Neben den neuen Kompositionen beinhaltet das Repertoire des Quartetts Stücke aus der Jazztradition sowie Symeonidis’ eigene Arrangements klassischer Funk- und Soul-Songs. Die Band besteht aus Thomas Hahn (Tenor- und Sopransaxophon), Maik Kleer (E-Bass), Aarón Castrillo (Schlagzeug) und Symeonidis an der Gitarre. Ihr Sound verbindet Swing-, Afro- und Funk-Grooves mit Improvisation und Spontaneität. Im Kern geht es bei „Everything In Between“ darum, im Moment zu leben. Die Musik lebt von Spontaneität und Interaktion und lässt jedem Stück Raum zum Atmen und sich natürlich entwickeln. Im Kern ist es Jazz, aber offen und zugänglich – und lädt Hörer aus der Jazzwelt und darüber hinaus ein.
The Jako Quartet is the new project of Berlin-based Greek guitarist Iakovos ‘Jako’ Symeonidis. Building on the foundation of his debut album Safe Place, the group focuses on original music that blends jazz, soul, and funk.
Recorded in May 2025, their new album Everything In Between features nine tracks – mostly original compositions by Symeonidis, shaped by his experiences as a Greek immigrant living abroad. In addition to the new compositions, the quartet’s repertoire includes pieces from the jazz tradition and Symeonidis’s own arrangements of classic funk and soul tunes.
The band features Thomas Hahn (tenor and soprano saxophones), Maik Kleer (electric bass), Aarón Castrillo (drums), and Symeonidis on guitar, their sound blends swing, Afro, and funk grooves with improvisation and spontaneity.
At its heart, Everything In Between is about living in the moment. The music embraces spontaneity and interaction, allowing each track to breathe and take shape naturally. It’s jazz at the core, but open and accessible – inviting in listeners from both inside and outside the jazz world.
