Mit hochgelobten CD Veröffentlichungen, Tourneen durch Asien, Lateinamerika, Afrika, Europa und die USA hat sich der ehemalige Wahlnewyorker und nunmehr Wahlberliner Sebastian Schunke, der als erster Europäer mehrfach (2022, 2024) für den „kubanischen Grammy“ nominiert wurde und ihn sogar gewonnen hat (!), einen festen Platz in der Spitze der internationalen Latin-Jazzszene verschafft. Renommierte Künstler wie Paquito d´Rivera, Nils Wogram, Antonio Sanchez, Richie Flores oder John Benitez begeisterten sich für Schunkes neuen Stil und sind Teil seines internationalen Wirkens. Sein neuestes und innovativstes Projekt ist die Formation „Sisetan“ mit dem in Madrid lebenden kubanischen Ausnahmekünstler Noslen Ortega, der zu den interessantesten Perkussionisten weltweit zählt, der den Ansatz zur afro-kubanischen Perkussion völlig neu entwickelt hat. Zum Quartet gehören noch der Award Winning New York/Berliner Bassist Nick Dunston und der Grammy Award Winner Roman Filiu – sax. Beide zählen zu der Speerspitze der New Yorker Avant Garde.

With critically acclaimed CD releases and tours across Asia, Latin America, Africa, Europe and the USA, Sebastian Schunke – formerly a resident of New York and now based in Berlin – has secured a firm place at the forefront of the international Latin jazz scene. Renowned artists such as Paquito d’Rivera, Nils Wogram, Antonio Sanchez, Richie Flores and John Benitez have been enthusiastic about Schunke’s new style and are part of his international work. His latest and most innovative project is the group “Sisetan” with the exceptional Cuban artist Noslen Ortega, who lives in Madrid and is one of the most interesting percussionists in the world, having completely reinvented the approach to Afro-Cuban percussion. The quartet also features the award-winning New York/Berlin bassist Nick Dunston and Grammy Award winner Roman Filiu on saxophone. Both are at the forefront of the New York avant-garde.
